THE GREATEST GENERATION IN COLOR WW II
HD A 10-PART SERIES ON HISTORY™ TO PREMIERE IN
2009 A LOU REDA
PRODUCTION Three Thousand Hours of Restored Color
Archival Footage and Hundreds of Pages of Unpublished Diaries &
Journals Create Unique Cinematic Experience
Los Angeles, CA, July 9,
2008 – History™ has greenlit one of its most ambitious projects to
date, WW II HD, a ten part series premiering in 2009, that will
offer one of the most visually astonishing World War II experiences ever seen
on television. The announcement was made today by Nancy Dubuc, Executive Vice
President and General Manager, History. “This is History at its
core,” said Dubuc. “We are committed to preserving our heritage and
the remarkable digital technology of WW II in HD will go a long way in ensuring
that we never forget the sacrifice made by the Greatest Generation.”
WWII II HD will draw from over 3,000 hours of archival color
footage, unearthed from archives and private collections scattered across the
globe, and restored to pristine condition through advanced HD technology.
Artfully shot contemporary HD footage will be seamlessly blended in to reveal
what has become of the places where men fought and died, while an explosively
resonating 5.1 Dolby “soundscape” full of authentic and unique
sounds help create an experience that is clearer and more immediate than
anything ever before seen on World War II. The series will follow the
experiences of a handful of men as their personal journeys cross-connect with
one another throughout the war. Their own words, found in unpublished diaries
and journals, will be delivered with emotional impact by some of
Hollywood’s top talents, helping to recreate the war’s events not
as detached historical facts, but rather as profound experiences on the level
of a great Hollywood epic. As part of History’s newly formed
multi-media partnership with the Library of Congress and its collection of
nearly 140 million items, History will incorporate original Library of Congress
audio recordings from World War II into the series. Executive
Producers for History are David McKillop and Michael Stiller. WW II
HD is produced by Lou Reda Productions. Executive Producers for Lou
Reda Productions are Lou Reda and Scott Reda.
